The major firmware update to Lumia devices, called Lumia Denim, has been rolling out world-wide to many phones and carriers for a couple of months now. Although Microsoft has promised to deliver the update to eligible devices in all markets by the end of February, many North American Lumia owners are still patently waiting.
According to WindowsCentral, Lumia 830 owners in Canada are widely reporting that they are now able to download and install Lumia Denim on their devices. Reports indicate the update is available for the device on all major carriers including Rogers and Bell.
The update brings OS version number to 8.10.14234.375 and the firmware version number is 02040.00021.15063.02001.
Microsoft hasn’t announced they are pushing the update to Lumia 830 in Canada but we expect to get the official confirmation shortly. It is worth noting that Lumia 830 owners in the U.S. are still waiting for their Denim update, perhaps this is a precursor to the massive U.S. roll-out to the popular Windows Phone.
Lumia Denim brings some major improvements to the Windows Phone 8.1 OS including “Hey Cortana” feature as well as enhancements to the Lumia Camera app experience HDR, Dynamic flash and much more.
As Lumia Denim update is pushed to a select number of devices across the globe, users are reporting some pretty significant performance improvements, particularly when it comes to the Lumia Camera app start-up time.
This was one of the key enhancements Microsoft has promised to introduce with Lumia Denim and we now have two videos comparing the Camera app start-up times between Denim and Cyan.
The difference is rather significant, especially when the Denim-equipped Lumia 1520 is pitted against the Lumia 1020 with Cyan – have a look.

We expect Microsoft will roll out the big update to everyone over the next several weeks as right now only a small number of phones in select European, Asian and South American countries have received it. Stay tuned, we’ll keep you posted.
Windows Central has reported that Lumia Denim is now starting to roll out in Europe on some Lumia devices, so for those of you who are eager to get this update, we suggest you manually check as you might just be able to download it before it gets automatically pushed to your device. Lumia 625 variants, 520’s, 530’s and Lumia 1320’s are reportedly starting to see this update.
These updates roll out gradually, so you may not see it right away, but be patient as the update is imminent.
Microsoft has a support page dedicated to Lumia updates where you can see the latest version of the software available for your phone in each European country.

There are reports out of China today that some Lumia phones in that country are already getting the Lumia Denim firmware and OS update. The phones being included in this roll-out include the Lumia 520, Lumia 525, Lumia 526, Lumia 625, Lumia 720, Lumia 720T and the Lumia 1320, according to WindowsCentral.
As Microsoft prepares to push this Over-The-Air update in all countries in early 2015, the company has now published a YouTube video (above) to give Lumia owners a heads-up on what to expect with this major phone update and gives some useful tips on installation.
Have a look!
On an official support page, Microsoft today confirms that the entire range of Lumia devices will soon be equipped with aptX audio streaming codec through the upcoming Lumia Denim firmware update.
This particular codec will enable you to stream high-quality audio over Bluetooth from your phone to supported accessories.
We’re not sure exactly when Lumia Denim will be released but many expect it to be sometime in the early 2015. This is one of many improvements expected with Lumia Denim and it will be rolled out to all Windows Phone 8/8.1 handsets via the air.
