Microsoft’s DirectX 12 API is set to be available with Windows 10 and according to Stardock Studios CEO Brad Waddell is said to be the first version of DirectX that uses multiple core effectively. In addition this new Microsoft API can do some pretty interesting things to become more efficient and enable a significant increase in graphics performance.
DirectX 12 is able to split the process across multiple cores much more effectively unlike DirectX 11 and achieve a much greater efficiency reducing the time it takes to render a frame. Brad Waddell demonstrated on his blog that DirectX 12 is more than twice as fast than its predecessor in this particular task, achieving a 4ms time compared to the 9ms it takes for DirectX 11 to render the same frame.
However, real world performance will depend on both the developer and the game but he goes on to say that “DirectX 12 will produce the biggest performance bump for those who utilize it we’ve ever seen”.
“Next time you watch Jurassic Park or Phantom Menace, please realize that the CGI in those movies can be done in real-time today. However, most graphics engines in games still render scenes very differently than in movies. That’s because it’s only recently been possible to create real-world fidelity in real-time. But a modern machine with DirectX 12 (or Mantle) could do real-time visuals in a game that is as good as you would get in say Lord of the Rings.”
He goes on to say that games developed with DirectX 12 using a modern CPU + GPU combo can achieve graphical fidelity of CGI movies. This will be possible due to the similarities in which DirectX 12 will render real-time images compared to how CGI was rendered in the past. He also noted that gamers should keep a close eye on the development of the Unreal 4, Frostbite, Crytek and Nitrous engines.
It’s unclear how much of an impact DirectX 12 will have on the Xbox One in terms of graphical fidelity, but we expect that it will have a notable effect. It’ll be interesting to see how much performance Microsoft can squeeze out of their console, and we hope the software giant sheds some light on this topic in their upcoming Windows 10 consumer event in January.

wow!!!…..CANT WAIT!!!!
Que Sony fanboys who think they know more than the devs, lol!
theirs one above.
Well ask the guy above You are flat out wrong (just so you know he is always wrong hence his name)
A shame that most of DX12’s benefits are already on the Xbone and your precious Phil Spencer said it won’t do much.
dangles carrot. what benefits are on the xbox one from dx12?
Transferring console API benefits to PC. Xbone already has these benefits. Like your precious Phil has recognised, all you’re getting is faster porting between PC and Xbone. :^)
Wow, software developer now.
No, just someone who pays attention. :^)
and has’nt got a clue.
Dry your eyes, taffy poos. :^)
From laughing at you.
And who are you?
He is the guy who upvotes his own comments with fake ghost accounts to make it seem as if people really agree with him. Oh and his a troll who has nothing better to do with his life.
Phil is very precious, im guessing your a pony though so its to be expected.
And you’re another Xbitch bedwetter. Got a point to make?
yes, i classify you as a phony groany pony, you classify me as an xbitch bedwetter…. and phil is precious…………………………………….point made
What do barnyard animals have to do with anything?
Cant wait to see Xbox One’s hardware be embraced by D3D12.
phil spencer is under nda and he is like politician there is a big differents be twin what they says and the truth
